Prime Minister Petkov and the agricultural sector discuss to provide sufficient quantities of grain for the country

Prime Minister Kiril Petkov took part in a meeting of the advisory council on grain to discuss the provision of food for the population and the problems facing the sector.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for EU Funds and Minister of Finance Assen Vassilev, Deputy Prime Minister for Economy and Industry, and Minister of Economy and Industry Korneliya Ninova and Minister of Agriculture Ivan Ivanov. Representatives of grain producers and processors, and livestock breeders and traders from the sector took part in the discussion on behalf of the branch organizations.

The sides concurred that the state should enter the grain market and buy the necessary quantities to meet the needs of the Bulgarian population. In this way, farmers will be able to sell their products, and on the other hand Bulgarian citizens will not have to worry about shortages on the Bulgarian market. The mechanism by which the state should buy the grain is to be specified.

Talks on the topic will continue at a working meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture to clarify the details of the necessary actions.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that the cabinet aims to help farmers so that they can produce not only raw materials but also products with high added value.

Kiril Petkov called on people in the sector to report if they have information about abuses, as this is in the interest of all parties.
